World Show-jumping Championship Qualifier Event in PE
Port Elizabeth has been names as a host city for a world show-jumping championship qualifier event. It promises to be an energising mid-Winter injection of tourist revenue, not to mention bringing great excitement to all the equestrians in the Nelson Mandela Bay area.
The event which will culminate next year March in a finals’ championship somewhere in Europe, is part of the Switzerland-based Federation Equestrian International competition, Pippa Swift explained, the EP Horse Society vice-chairman.
The course will include 15 jumps all 150cm to 160cm – huge for even your average good jumper – but it is also the tightness of the course, and the lack of space to turn and bring your mount up to speed that makes for a championship course.
Similar qualifying events will be held, in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Western Province, leading up to the world championship. Similar qualifiying events will also be held and a similar system will be playing out all over the world.
The big weekend for PE is in mid-July at the PE Riding Club in Lorraine. Supporting events set to start on the morning of Friday 15th. More action happens on Saturday 16th – and then the world championship qualifier is on Sunday July 17.
“It’s hopefully a sign of even more happening around show-jumping in the future.” says Swift.
